Student Evaluation Case Competition

The Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) and the Canadian Evaluation Society Educational Fund (CESEF) co-sponsor the competition. On our website, students, professors and supporters of the competition will find the information needed to get involved.

The Student Evaluation Case Competition is a bilingual, two-round annual Canadian competition that helps post-secondary students build and showcase their evaluation skills using real life cases. In February of each year, teams of students from universities and colleges from across Canada assess a case from a real-world program as part of the virtual preliminary-round. Teams are made up of of three to five students and may come from any faculty; previous participants had backgrounds in psychology, philosophy, public health, population health, economics, and more! Teams also have a coach, which may be a faculty member at a post-secondary institution or a member of the evaluation community.

Preliminary-round submissions are reviewed by a panel of judges and the top three teams are invited to participate in the final round at the CES annual conference. Teams will design proposals for real organizations that are invited to the Final round to see the students’ work. All finalists receive free conference registration and funding towards their travel costs, and the winning team is presented with the competition plaque.

Check out the pages on our website to find more details on the competition purpose, rules, previous cases and student submissions, as well as other resources to help you participate.

The CESEF is an independent organization created by the Canadian Evaluation Society in 1990 and reorganized in 2005 to increase national assessment capacity through educational activities. In 2006, CESEF was officially registered as a Canadian charity.

The Fund maintains partnerships with the Canadian Evaluation Society and the Consortium of Universities for Evaluation Education to promote the shared goal of developing the area of program evaluation by increasing access to education, training and professional development.

We invite interested people, potential partners, students and evaluation specialists to send us their comments and suggestions.
